Tourist magnet Berlin: Numerous new hotels and extensions with a total of around ten thousand beds are planned in the capital.
Major new construction projects are pending, especially in districts just outside the city center such as Neukölln, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Treptow-Köpenick, Spandau and Lichtenberg. There are also extensions and conversions. This emerges from a response from the Senate with figures from the districts to a request from the Greens.
Estrel Tower will have 700 rooms
Because not all districts responded, the information is not complete. Alone Neukoelln but comes to 1700 new beds, to which above all the planned 170 meter high Estrel Tower on Sonnenallee with around 700 rooms and 1400 beds will contribute.
In Spandau According to the information, 2600 new hotel beds are planned. Among the projects are several large hotels, with around 1300, 540 and 300 beds. In Treptow-Köpenick new buildings with a total of more than 1700 beds. In Tempelhof-Schoeneberg there are 1400 new hotel beds, including a major project with more than 500 rooms and 1100 beds.

At the same time, a smaller number of hotels in various parts of the city were closed or converted to other uses.
26 million overnight stays expected
According to official statistics, in 2021 Berlin had 704 hotels, hostels, apartment houses and similar establishments with a total of around 138,000 beds. In addition, there are legal and illegal sublettings of apartments via the Internet.
For the current year 2023, 26 to 27 million overnight stays by tourists and other foreign visitors are expected. Especially in the districts of Kreuzberg, Nord-Neukölln, Friedrichshain, Mitte and Schöneberg, which are heavily frequented by party tourists, many residents complain about noise, dirt and constantly rising rents.
