More than 400 cats and dozens of owners came together from all over Europe today in Nieuw-Vennep during the largest international cat show of this year. Each participating cat is judged and judged by special cat judges. Those with the most points win.
At least 32 varieties are present in the Vanzantenhal, where the event is held. “This is a Maine Coon called Flynn,” says one of the participants. The owners all have their own ‘cat house’ for each four-legged friend. “It is forbidden for the cats to walk around themselves,” says Cussee.
According to Gea Cussee, a volunteer at the Mundikat foundation, the participating owners are very fanatical. “It is a competition. People often think their own cat is the most beautiful. It sometimes happens that people do not agree with the judge’s winning assessment. Then there is sometimes venom on Facebook.”
But above all, participants come for the fun. “Since we bought our cat, a world opened up to us. We were as green as grass, we had no idea. But now we all have cat friends. I’m proud of my cat, but we mainly come for the fun. We eat together with the cat friends and we stay in hotels in the cities when there is a show. We now catch a show every month, we always look forward to it.”
