Dorothea Wierer clears the next award

The two-time overall World Cup winner Dorothea Wierer has again been honored in her Italian homeland. The Sci Club Forlì awarded the 32-year-old biathlete from South Tyrol the “Golden Crystal 2022”.

Wierer won bronze in the women’s biathlon sprint at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. For the Italian it was the first Olympic medal in her successful career.

Wierer should have officially received the “Golden Crystal” on Sunday. However, as the Sci Club Forlì reported on its website, the ceremony was postponed. A new date not fixed yet.

In addition to Wierer, the Sci Club Forlì also honors Fabrizio Curtaz. The longtime racing director of the Italian biathletes receives the “Silver Crystal 2022”.

Third award within a short period of time for biathlon star Dorothea Wierer

The Crystal Awards of the Sci Club Forlì look back on a long tradition. Since 1966, the ski club from the Emilia-Romagna region has been awarding these awards to deserving personalities from the world of winter sports.

Last year, the “Golden Crystal” went to Marta Bassino, the 2021 World Cup winner in giant slalom.

In 2019, ski racer Dominik Paris was awarded the “Golden Crystal” after his Super-G world championship title in the same year.

For Wierer, the “Golden Crystal 2022” is not the first personal award she has received this year. At the end of September, the 32-year-old was named “Italy’s most influential athlete” by the business newspaper “Milano Finanza”.

In mid-October, Wierer was voted “Sportswoman of the Year 2022” in her native South Tyrol. In the vote, which was carried out by the newspaper “Dolomiten” and the online portal “Sportnews.bz” and in which almost 40,000 fans took part, Dorothea Wierer with 5,219 votes clearly ahead of alpine star Nadia Delago (3,666 votes) and the Volleyball player Raphaela Folie (2124) through.
