Doping suspicion: HSV professional Vuskovic’s B sample opened in mid-December

There is some movement in the suspected doping case Mario Vuskovic. According to NDR information, the opening of the B sample will take place in mid-December. In the A sample, the HSV defender tested positive for Epo and was provisionally banned by the DFB.

A spokesman for the German Football Association (DFB) told NDR that the B sample would be opened in mid-December after consultation with the player and the club. Furthermore, the DFB will be personally represented at the opening of the B sample.

It stands to reason that Vuskovic will also attend the opening of the B sample. This right is laid down in the implementation regulations for the DFB rules of the game. Vuskovic can also send a representative. It is very unlikely that the analysis of the B sample will give a different result than the positive A sample.

After all, there is now a certain timetable after the case of the 21-year-old Croatian had become a kind of stalemate: the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) received the analysis result of the A sample on November 10th from the laboratory according to NDR information , eight weeks after the out-of-competition test of September 16 this year. A long period, but according to NADA a common one.

DFB informs players and club

At this point, a special feature that exists in professional football began: As provided for in the DFB rules, NADA first transmits the result in cases like Vuskovic to the association. The DFB in turn informs the player and club concerned. A self-chosen role of the DFB, which would also have the option of assigning the procedure to NADA.

On November 12, after the 4-2 win against Sandhausen, HSV published Vuskovic’s positive Epo result. The Croatian was not part of the squad. HSV initially explained this with “personal reasons”.

HSV and players work together

Club and players are currently pulling together. Vuskovic hired two lawyers, one for doping and one specializing in association law. In addition, the defender in Hamburg was examined by HSV doctors to find a genetic explanation – which is unlikely, if not impossible.

If the result of the B sample analysis is available and should confirm the positive Epo finding of the A sample, the next step would be for the DFB sports court to come into play, which would set a trial date for the “Vuskovic case”. According to the DFB legal and procedural code, the standard penalty for doping offenses is four years (paragraph 8b).
