Viewing YLE TV channels requires a TV or a set-top box with an HD tuner starting Tuesday. This is about the biggest change in the HD transition that has been worked for many years. Next is coming in the summer.
Transport and Communications Agency Traficom resemblethat the Finnish television network is now going on with a major change as YLE’s basic television broadcasts end.
The last SD-level broadcasts will be seen on YLE channels on Monday, March 31. From Tuesday 1 April, watching YLE channels in the antenna or cable network requires a TV or a set-top box with an HD tuner.
The back of a broad communication
According to Traficom, there are still about 100,000 households in Finland with television but does not have an HD compatible receiver. In practice, this means that in these households, YLE’s channels can no longer be viewed from tomorrow, and even commercial channels will disappear on June 30 in the next phase of HD transition.
Traficom reports that the number of HD compatible households has halved a year.
-We have worked extensively with the TV business, e-operators, industry organizations, and senior and retirement organizations, to reach the transition to all populations, Traficom Project Manager Artturi Kavaja says in the bulletin.
What do you pay?
Many of the households without an HD-compliant receiver can move quite cheaply to the HD time.
The most affordable high -definition digital boxes cost less than 40 euros, and in the price range of less than $ 100, the selection is already fair. The prices of new TVs, on the other hand, start at around € 200.
Virtually all TVs sold in Finland are HD compatible, but it is still worth checking out the seller.
The first HD-compatible TVs have come to the market as early as the last millennium, so technology itself is no longer new. At its lowest, HD TVs and set-top boxes can even be found on the market for free.
