Wendy van Dijk understands that she has become more or less unemployed as a TV presenter. “How often do I watch TV myself? Very little. So I understand that very well,” said the SBS 6 star.

Things can go quickly with a television career, as Wendy van Dijk proves. She was at the top for years as the face of The Voice of Holland, but nowadays there is no longer a single program for her. “You now see that there is less development in the field of TV, especially when it comes to showbiz programs,” she explains in the Weekend.

Wendy is out

SBS 6 already fills half of its primetime hours during the week with VI. “There are more talk shows and major live events,” Wendy agrees. “So I’m just really happy that I have acting on the side, so that maybe I can expand on that more?”

Is Wendy nervous about the progress of her TV career? “No. Somehow I always believe that things turn out the way they do. And I see how the television world is changing, so it doesn’t come like a bolt from the blue. How often do I watch TV myself? Very little. So I understand that very well.”

‘Costs a lot of money’

It is just what it is, says Wendy. “The world is changing and big show programs cost too much money. Everyone now makes their own program, on their own channel. I also understand that very well.”

Isn’t she upset about it? “No, I’m at peace with it. It’s just the times. It also challenges me in other areas. I’m busy with my own platform. I now have the time and space to focus more on that and expand it. (…) It will be about exercise and trying to inspire people to stay fit.”

Out of the spotlight

There is a chance that Wendy will no longer have a TV contract in a few years. Is she in sackcloth and ashes? Or can she imagine a life without the spotlight? “Definitely! Although I think television will always exist, it won’t end anytime soon.”

“But of course, a life without showbiz: one hundred percent. My identity does not depend on that.”
