Dominik Eberle gets new NFL chance

The German football professional Dominik Eberle gets a new chance in the US professional league NFL with the Green Bay Packers.

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ club has signed the kicker, and now the 25-year-old from Nuremberg has to prove himself in preparation for the four-time Super Bowl champion.

“It’s incredible that I can now be a part of such a traditional team. I’m looking forward to becoming a cheesehead and living in Green Bay,” said Eberle at Sport1, based on the Packers fans’ nickname.

Eberle had made his NFL debut last season, shortly after Christmas the Franconian in the Houston Texans jersey convinced against the Los Angeles Chargers (41:29) with two field goals and five extra points. It was his only mission so far. He had not played a game during his time with the Carolina Panthers and the Las Vegas Raiders.

The newcomer is looking forward to “the first game, the preseason, the training camp”. He competes with Mason Crosby (37) for the Packers. “I have a lot of respect for Mason Crosby,” Eberle said. “He’s a longtime kicker in the NFL, won the Super Bowl, is a clutch kicker and makes a lot of game winners.”

Nevertheless, he has the expectation “that in the end I’ll be the kicker if I kick at my best level – and that’s exactly how I go into this competition.” There is only room for one kicker in an NFL squad.
