Back-up problems at FC Bayern – standstill at Gnabry, Lewandowski & Christensen

“Sport Bild” report

FC Bayern is facing groundbreaking decisions in squad planning and “Sport Bild” focuses on the construction sites at the German record champions. According to the magazine, the lack of high-quality “back-ups” for the front row around Leon Goretzka (27) and Alphonso Davies (21) is an internal issue. There are concerns within the club that Munich will run into problems “with their eyes wide open” – in the event that no investments are made in the team for the coming season. Back row players like Marcel Sabitzer (27) and Omar Richards (24) disappointed when given the chance. In addition, midfielder Corentin Tolisso (27) is out of contract.

There is apparently no further development in the talks about extending the contract of regular players. In order not to suffer the next free transfers after David Alaba (29; 2021 to Real Madrid) and Niklas Süle (26; 2022 to BVB), the contracts with Manuel Neuer (35), Thomas Müller (32), Robert Lewandowski (33) and Serge Gnabry (26) will sooner or later be expanded. Corresponding efforts are made by all candidates.

According to reports, the talks between Bayern and the Gnabry management are faltering – a meeting in the second week of February is said to have been unsuccessful. Both sides are still far apart at the moment, although the atmosphere is by no means bad, they say. Offensive man Gnabry wants to get closer to his teammates Kingsley Coman (25) and Leroy Sané (26) when it comes to salary, there is talk of 15 to 20 million euros a year. In short: an extension would be difficult, but despite the current deadlock, staying beyond 2023 is still the most likely option. And Gnabry, who is the focus of Tottenham and Chelsea, does not want to leave Bayern early next summer anyway.

In the case of homegrown Müller, there are approaches and signs that an agreement is being reached. The FCB and its deserving player, who is being courted by Everton and Newcastle, value each other, it is said. Lewandowski, on the other hand, is currently at a standstill, according to the report there are no talks. The same applies to Neuer, but in his case the contact is “good”, the goalkeeper is planning to end his career in Munich anyway. According to “Sport Bild”, Müller, Lewandowski and Neuer are united in wanting to extend the contract by two years.

FC Bayern needs reinforcements for the center of defence: a new attempt at Christensen

Those responsible at FC Bayern have chosen Andreas Christensen (25) from Chelsea as the center of defence. The league leader dared to make a new move and expressed his interest to the Dane’s consulting agency – but without any significant success. The offer was apparently too low for the Christensen side. It is also problematic that Christensen, who will be free in the summer, leaves all discussions to his agents and wants to concentrate fully on his job.
