Philip Vanneste, managing director of Dominiek Savio: “We understand that many people – students, clients, parents, employees and local residents – will find this news very unfortunate. We also find the disappearance of swimming pools in Flanders an extremely worrying evolution. For our target group, swimming is not only healthy and fun, but often also essential. In addition, not all swimming pools in the region are sufficiently accessible for people with disabilities.”
Swimming remains important
Kaat Delrue, general manager Dominiek Savio: “Although we will no longer open our large swimming pool, we will continue to make every effort to allow our students and clients to swim. School swimming is currently taking place in Lichtervelde and Roeselare, even though this entails organizational challenges. We also have a therapy pool in De Tandem on our domain in Gits. We are now looking internally at how we can optimize its occupancy.”
New destination
At this time, all students, parents, residents and employees are being informed that the renovation and reopening investigation is being halted. The management will then look at how the space of the former swimming pool can be given a new, valuable purpose in the future.
