Does the Netherlands have enough respect for Bas Smit? The brand new celebrity licker Antoinnette Scheulderman doesn’t think so. “This is what you don’t see behind all those funny videos,” she says in the AD.

It already promises to be cringeworthy television: the new celebrity ego show in which Antoinnette Scheulderman interviews a series of celebrities about their ‘success’ and what it ‘smells’ like. Sylvie Meis may chuckle hysterically that people obsessed with her and Bas Smit can also vent about how he doesn’t get enough appreciation for what he does.

24/7 Bas Smit

It all starts tonight, prime time on NPO 1, but Antoinnette reveals it A.D The gist of it is already a bit: all those celebrities are having a hard time and we should really have more respect for them. “You have to be prepared to sacrifice a lot. Bas Smit is Bas Smit 24/7, his own brand,” the star worshiper swoons.

She thinks it is highly admirable what Bas does and who he is. “Wherever he goes, whatever he does, he always has to deal with attention, prejudices and criticism.”

Tone-deaf

Gosh, Bas is having a hard time. Is this the same Bas who thought he could get 2.6 million euros from Coca-Cola by having fun for a few hours and drinking Coke at five music festivals? Detached from reality. “I must honestly say that I also had a certain image of him,” says Antoinnette.

She continues: “I sometimes saw snippets on Twitter in which he mainly came across as a joker, sometimes a bit tone-deaf. What you don’t see, behind the funny videos, is how much time and energy goes into it and how much criticism and unpleasant reactions he has to deal with.”

Crying all the way to the bank.

More respect

In any case: according to Antoinnette, we as the Netherlands could show a little more respect for Bas. “The evening before our interview, Bas raised five million for the Princess Máxima Center.”

She thinks that is unprecedented. “He could also have just sat on the couch with his wife Nicolette and thought: We’re doing well, aren’t we? I think that’s wonderful.”

Bas and Nicolette think it’s wonderful that the outside world thinks this is wonderful. And so the circle is complete again…
