Does Qatar no longer feel like FC Bayern?

The sponsorship deal between FC Bayern and Qatar Airways, Qatar’s national airline, expires next summer. Another extension of the cooperation agreement is highly controversial with the German record champions. The majority of FC Bayern members are demanding the end of the Qatar deal, which brings the club millions every year. Now the new sponsorship contract could burst for a completely different reason.

As stated in a report by “Sport Bild”, the further cooperation between FC Bayern and Qatar Airways is now in the balance because of something other than the loud concerns expressed by the club’s supporters.

After the German performance at the World Cup in their own country, the Qataris themselves should question whether they want to continue working with the largest football club in Germany at all.

The never-ending discussion about the “One Love” captain’s armband and the controversial “mouth-to-mouth” gesture by the Germans before the group game against Japan, in which many Bayern stars also took part, is said to have led to this attitude among those responsible at Qatar Airways to have.

FC Bayern bosses have already traveled to Qatar

Almost a week ago, CEO Oliver Kahn traveled to the desert state together with Marketing Director Andreas Jung to conduct negotiations with the previous premium sponsor.

Whether and what results have come out of it is still completely open.

The fact is that Qatar Airways has transferred a whopping 25 million euros per year to FC Bayern for the sponsorship deal in recent years. A huge sum that would not be easy to replace even with the German industry leader.

On January 6, the FC Bayern team will be heading towards Qatar to set up their winter training camp in Doha. In addition to further talks on site, the Bayern protagonists then want to work on improving the battered image of the Germans in Qatar again.

However, it no longer seems clear that the World Cup organizers want to continue working with Munich in the long term beyond the summer of 2023.
