FC Schalke 04’s plans for the coming winter break are taking shape. Disappointment is apparently on the horizon for some S04 fans.

As the club-affiliated “WAZ” reports, there is a “clear tendency” for the Revierklub to forego a training camp in preparation for the second half of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga and stay in Gelsenkirchen.

The regional newspaper cites several reasons for this, including the short period between the New Year and the start of the second half of the season, which FC Schalke 04 will play in the away game against Hertha BSC on the weekend of January 16th to 18th.

Those responsible also classify the conditions at Schalke as ideal in winter thanks to the heating of the grass on the main training pitches. Coach Miron Muslic is also said to be generally not a fan of winter training camps away from home.

And: A corresponding trip costs a six-figure sum – a lot of money for the cash-strapped Schalke team. It is said that the training camps in recent years, in which Schalke traveled twice to Belek in Turkey and to Albufeira in Portugal, were internally controversial because of this.

Disappointment for fans of FC Schalke 04 who love to travel

For many S04 fans who love to travel, the decision against a training camp in the south would be bitter. Because: They accompanied their favorites in droves over the past winters.

Last January, for example, around 100 supporters took part in the Blue and White Night in Belek, despite the unsatisfactory sporting situation at the time. Players, coaches and those responsible mingled with the fans and fulfilled requests for autographs and photos.

There were also public training sessions and two test matches on the program.

There are currently indications that Schalke will have a more enjoyable winter break than last. After six wins from the first eight games of the season, the Knappen are in second place in the lower house.
