Experience the big European Championship events of the summer again! The whole of Germany was excited about the UEFA EURO 2024! For 40 days, camera teams led by showrunner Tom Häussler not only accompanied the DFB team, but also captured up close how fans experienced the games. The result is the documentary “Our Team – The Home European Championships 2024”.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann is drumming up the drum: “Despite being eliminated in the quarter-finals, the home European Championship was unique for us because the fans carried us through the tournament. The film impressively shows this symbiosis between team and fans.”
He also provides deep insights into the inner workings of the German national soccer team during the exciting summer up to the unfortunate quarter-final exit against eventual European champions Spain.
Evidence of a new sense of community
But the documentary goes far beyond what happens on the pitch or within the team. You can see, among other things, how imprisoned women in Cologne’s Ossendorf correctional facility hug each other during Ilkay Gündogan’s 2-0 win against Hungary.
The German soldiers of the tank battalion on the Lithuanian border, doctors with their patients in the intensive care unit of a clinic in Bremen or the musicians in the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie during a concert experienced similar feelings.
“Wherever we went to film, that’s exactly what was impressively evident: a very high level of identification with this team and an ever-increasing euphoria over the course of the tournament weeks,” reports documentary director and television award winner Tom Häussler. “Our impression was that the people we met incredibly enjoyed this European Championship and the new sense of community that came with it. And so did we!”
“The summer of 2024 was something very special for us as a team and especially for the whole of football Germany, even beyond,” DFB coach Nagelsmann still enthuses.
He also hopes that the EM documentary will have a positive effect: “I’m really looking forward to starting 2025 with these emotions. Because we still have a lot of plans together.”
