Do apartments and companies go together at Leisure Boulevard Roden?

In the future, the Leisure Boulevard in Roden must – in addition to being a place for businesses – also be a place for homes. But there is a downside to the clustering of companies and houses. For example, the owner of the HoutCentrum Roden warns that residents of new apartments can sometimes be bothered by the company’s noise.

The intention is that 22 apartments will be built on the Kanaalstraat in Roden. The wood business of the Klok family is adjacent to this site. Gert Klinker, who spoke on behalf of the Klok family, indicated that the timber trade produces quite a lot of noise. “When the company started in 1996, the Klok family didn’t want any problems with local residents. That’s why they kept a distance of 25 meters from the houses and had an extra noise barrier installed,” says Klinker.

The plans for new apartments on the site behind the timber yard show that only 8 meters remain. “An expensive noise study has been carried out and it shows that a good living environment cannot be guaranteed,” says Klinker. In other words: according to the noise study, new residents will be inconvenienced by the activities of the Klok family.

Klinker therefore wants the municipality to look again at the plans, so that the timber trade will not be a burden to anyone and the work can continue. “The Klok family is not against housing, but their interests are being neglected,” he says.

Alderman Jos Darwinkel (Municipal Interests) thinks that a good living environment can be guaranteed for the residents of the new apartments. “Because extra measures are being taken on the side of the companies.”

On the advice of the council, he will talk to the entrepreneurs again tomorrow. If all goes well, the decision will be put to a vote next week.
