Undergoing a heading can also have its benefits. The participants of the so -called Lucky Finnetje will afford that for hour. These people with disabilities, under the guidance of diving club De Emmer Duikers, venture every six weeks in the deep of the Emmer swimming pool Aquarena.
Marry is driven into the crystal clear water of the aquarenazwembad with the wheelchair, backwards, backwards. She looks a bit nervous, but Luuk Tomson encourages her in her own way: “Come on Marry, you can swim. Marry is one of the six participants in the Lucky Finnet in the Emmer swimming pool, in this case a diving hour for people with a non-congenital brain injury.
Tomson, chairman of the Emmer Duikers, is known for his immediate style and that is no coincidence. “I am a mokumer,” he says with a grin. “I do have a certain way of dealing and I also tackle them.” But his approach is anything but patronizing, precisely because he takes the participants seriously. And everyone can have the sympathetic Tomson. “I know Marry well. If she goes into the water, I think: fine, it is okay. Let go, dude,” he says. “You don’t always have to take people by the hand.”
