Despite sporting success last season, Nottingham Forest separated from coach Nuno Espírito Santo. Now the club needs a successor.

Just a few months after returning to international competition, Nottingham Forest ended the collaboration with Nuno Espírito Santo. The current tenth of the Premier League justified the decision on Tuesday night with the “recent events”.

The 51-year-old Portuguese had led Forest to seventh place in the past season and thus brought back to European parquet for the first time in three decades. In phases, the team even moved towards the Champions League places. This summer, Nuno had extended his contract by three years.

But in the current season, the relationship with owner Evangelo’s Marinakis was increasingly in an imbalance. In public, Nuno recently repeatedly expressed criticism of the club’s transfer policy. Since then there has been speculation about its future. In the previous season, Marinakis had apparently discussed with Nuno even after the final whistle of a game on the lawn.

The club said goodbye with appreciative words: “The association thanks Nuno for its contribution during a very successful era,” said the message. “As someone who played a crucial role in our success last season, he will always take a special place in our history.”

Nuno Espírito Santo has been in office since December 2023. Who will follow his successor is still open. According to a report by the “Bild” newspaper, a former Bundesliga coach (Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig) is targeting Nottinghams: Domenico Tedesco. The 39-year-old, who recently trained the Belgian national team, is currently considered the top candidate for the successor of José Mourinho near Fenerbahçe Istanbul.
