Disinfect hands upon entry: measures against FMD are reminiscent of corona times

It is somewhat reminiscent of the corona period. Anyone who enters the DCTerra school buildings will see a disinfection column standing out in front of them. You know: Those things you have to put your hands under to clean them with disinfectant.

They’re back. But no, the good news is that it is not about corona. There is no need to keep a distance of one and a half meters and there are no mandatory walking routes. The less good news: this is to prevent another virus. The foot-and-mouth disease virus, or foot-and-mouth disease.

There are no known infections in the Netherlands, but the virus did appear in Germany, around Berlin. And so measures have been taken there, and also in the Netherlands, to prevent the spread. Today, Germany announced that it will lift these measures because no new cases are known. The Netherlands will still keep the measures as a precaution.

The measures will remain in force at DCTerra for a while. In addition to disinfection columns, this concerns disinfection mats and trays for wiping shoes upon entry and dress codes. Internship visits are now done online as much as possible. “We are really aware of the risk of contamination and therefore take the precautions seriously,” says regional director Marijke Kompier.
