Disappointing day for Kira Toussaint at the World Swimming Championships: seventh and disqualification

On the second day of the World Short Course Swimming Championships, Kira Toussaint finished well outside the podium. The 28-year-old from Assendelft swam in the final of the 100-meter backstroke to seventh place in 56.41 seconds. During the 4×50 meters mixed, the Dutch team with Toussaint and Thom de Boer was disqualified.

Toussaint could not make a shot at her personal best with that time. In addition, she was almost a second slower than last year at the same distance. Last year, Toussaint finished fourth at the World Cup.

Kaylee McKeown took gold in the 100-meter backstroke. The 21-year-old top swimmer finished first in 55.49. Last year she won gold three times at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Disqualification

Toussaint was also unable to throw high in Melbourne with the relay team. The Dutch team finished third in the 4×50 meter mixed, but was disqualified afterwards. Thom de Boer had gone off the starting block a little too quickly.

Later this tournament, Toussaint will compete in the 50-meter backstroke and 200-meter backstroke
