Personnel planning at VfL Bochum is progressing for the new season. Now the club is also increasing at the management level.

VfL Bochum has found a successor for the vacant position of the managing director Sport. From April 7th, Dirk Dufner will take over the Bundesliga club. The 57-year-old’s contract runs until summer 2027. The district club announced this on Sunday.

“I would like to thank you primarily for the trust that those responsible for VfL will put in me in me and burn it to tackle this demanding challenge with full energy,” explains Dufner in the communication of the traditional club at risk of relegation. “Bochum is a great and emotional club that we now want to develop in the best possible way for the next few years.”

Dufner previously worked as a sports director at SC Freiburg and Hannover 96. Most recently, the studied lawyer worked at Hertha BSC until 2023 as director of squad management.

“I am looking forward to a close, trusting and successful collaboration with Dirk Dufner and I am sure that with his experience and his network, he will help us to make VfL a little better every day,” VfL Managing Director Ilja Kaenzig quotes in the message. CEO Uwe Tigges agrees: “After the extension with our head coach Dieter Hecking, we have now set the sporting course for a successful future and in the next few weeks everyone can fully focus on the most important goal – the whereabouts in the Bundesliga.”

The official presentation of Dufner is announced for Thursday, April 3.
