At the IGE of Rome, the role of the law is discussed, in force since 2018, which has revolutionized the way of communicating bookmakers and sports clubs

Rethink the role of the game and dictate new guidelines for the future. This is the goal of the Italian Gaming Expo & Conference (IGE), the convention that is taking place in Rome in these days reserved for institutions and operators of the public game sector. One of the hot themes on the table is the role of the so -called dignity decree which, since its entry into force in 2018, has revolutionized the way of communicating bookmakers and sports clubs. With scarce results according to Francesco Carione, general manager of the Gazzetta dello Sport: “The Dignity Decree led to a reduction in revenues both for the media and for football clubs by significantly increasing the betting market. Over the years then Agcom has changed several times directives and interpretations: to communicate today means trying to re -enter the borders of the law, which has led some operators to create some fake information sites to spread the brand. Large publishers are under the lens of the Authority, while for small sites and above all for influencers on social media the Far West reigns “.

“No positive aspect”

“No positive aspect, no objective achieved by the decree – continues Carione -. The communication should be oriented towards the information aspect and not the promotion of products or bonuses. And instead we are witnessing an advertising communication similar to a jungle, with the leader bookmakers who have the market in hand. And so even the minor sports come out damaged”. For years there has been a possible change to the decree but, so far, without concrete results: “It has been discussed with the government – adds Carione – but there has never been a shared effort between the parties even to enforce the objectives of the law”.
