Did a neighbor dispute get completely out of hand? Charred bodies of missing Canadian millionaire and partner found on Caribbean island | Abroad

The charred bodies of a missing Canadian tech millionaire and his partner have been found on the Caribbean island of Dominica. The remains of Daniel Langlois (66) and his wife Dominique Marchand were in a burned-out car. According to the Canadian public broadcaster ‘CBC’, the police arrested four people, including the couple’s neighbors, with whom they had been arguing for years about an access road.

Langlois made his fortune developing revolutionary 3D animation software. This was used, among other things, to create impressive 3D effects in blockbusters such as ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Titanic’, The Matrix’, ‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and various 3D video games.

In 1994 he sold his company SOFTIMAGE to Microsoft for 136 million euros. Three years later, he and his wife settled in Dominica, where the couple opened the eco-friendly resort Coulibri Ridge and started a foundation dedicated to art, technology and ecology.

However, Langlois got into an argument with the American couple who live next to Coulibri Ridge. The source of discussion was an access road to the resort. According to his neighbors, that was a private road that belonged to them. A legal battle ensued, which was ultimately settled by the country’s highest court. He agreed with Langlois and ruled that it was indeed a public road that the owners and visitors of Coulibri Ridge could use. Much to the dismay of his neighbor.

A week ago, Langlois and his wife disappeared. Their charred bodies were found in a burned-out car on Friday. According to local sources from the Canadian Public Broadcasting Service, they were ambushed and killed by an assassin, who then set the car containing their bodies on fire.

However, the perpetrator is said to have injured himself in the attack, which put the police on his trail. That then led to the neighbors of Langlois and Marchand.

Indictment

A total of four people were arrested: one Dominican and three foreigners. The local news site ‘Dominica News Online’ quotes Justice Minister Rayburn Blackmoore for this. This would include the American neighbors of the victims. There have been no official charges yet.
