Farewell after just one year?

Nicolò Tresoldi set another exclamation mark in the German U21 national team’s 3-0 win against Northern Ireland. The 21-year-old center forward, who will be in outstanding form in 2026, put the DFB team on the road to victory with his brace. This may have brought the former Hanoverian closer to Julian Nagelsmann’s team and in the sights of the top clubs.

“You can see that he is bursting with self-confidence. You can see what qualities he has in the box, he just has a nose for scoring goals,” said U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo. Tresoldi’s goals were eleven and twelve in his 23rd international match for the U21s – he is chasing Heiko Herrlich’s record, who was successful 17 times at the time. The attacker earned his self-confidence with nine goals in 15 games for Club Brugge in 2026 – of the German attackers, only Deniz Undav scored more often.

Tresoldi was happy after the game. “It’s always fun to play with such good players and for Germany,” explained the double goalscorer. After the mandatory task against Northern Ireland has been completed, it’s time to qualify for the European Championships against league leaders Greece on Monday. The DFB team lost the first leg 2-3, so they need a win in Athens.

Since Tresoldi was born in Cagliari and his Emanuele Tresoldi played for the Italian junior teams, there are always rumors about a change of association. “I haven’t spoken to anyone from Italy. I’m now with the U21s and focused on the next two games. So there’s nothing to say about that,” he said before the international break. Father Emanuele became U21 European champion in 1994 in the team led by future world champion captain Fabio Cannavaro and Filippo Inzaghi.

But it’s not just the national team, the clubs are also trying to recruit Tresoldi. According to a report from Sky, he could leave Club Brugge, which paid €7.5 million for him in the summer, after just one season. The price tag that the Belgians are calling for is said to be between 25 million and 30 million euros – which would put him in the top 10 of the most expensive German center forwards. In the TM rumor mill, Tresoldi is linked to Racing Strasbourg and Arsenal FC.
