The DFB women are safe in the European Championship quarter-finals. However, before the last group game against Sweden, they are in second place behind the Scandinavians. A victory could offer a great advantage for the further course of the tournament.

The quarter -finals are “booked” by the hard -won 2: 1 over Denmark – and thus reaches a first milestone at the European Championship in Switzerland from the DFB women’s perspective.

After the second matchday, Germany is “only” in second place in EM Group C. Sweden pushed past the team of national coach Christian Wück on Tuesday evening with his 3-0 win over Poland – thanks to a better goal difference.

Sweden before duel with Germany in the “pole position”

The late third Swedish gate through Lina Hurtig (77.) brought the Swedes into the “pole position” – and Germany before the direct duel on Saturday (9 p.m., in the live ticker on sportschau.de), the group would be the first to end. Because a victory against Sweden is necessary for this. The team wants “Of course group winner” DFB sports director Nia Künzer said on Wednesday.

This could be a great advantage with a view to the further course of the tournament. Because in the quarter -finals (July 17, 9 p.m.) you would be dealing with the second -placed people of Hammer Group D – probably France, England or the Netherlands. The most powerful of these three would therefore be escaped.

Avoid potential semi -finals with Spain

A group victory would also be important for a potential semi -finals. Because there the winner of Group B could wait for the second of the German Group C – probably Spain, the best team of the tournament so far.

In the event of a group victory, Germany could only lead to the current world champion in the final. For Wück and his team, there is enough incentive to defeat Sweden in Zurich on Saturday in Zurich and to push themselves into first place.

Where is the game transferred to Sweden?

The ZDF will show the game on TV and Livestream, on Sportschau.de there is a live ticker and the game for listening to the audio live stream.
