Eintracht Braunschweig has to make do without Jannis Nikolaou for the time being. The DFB announced the punishment for the 30-year-old on Monday after his red card.
The zero number at the start of the second half of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga only helped Eintracht Braunschweig to a limited extent. In addition, defensive player Jannis Nikolaou received a red card in the draw against FC Schalke 04 in their own stadium on Saturday after an emergency stop.
The DFB sports court has now pronounced the punishment against the 30-year-old. Nikolaou will not be available for BTSV for two league games after his sending off. This means he will miss both the away game at 1. FC Magdeburg next Friday (6.30 p.m.) and the home game against 1. FC Köln on February 1st (1 p.m.).
In the 0-0 draw against Schalke in the 67th minute, Nikolaou was the last man to illegally stop Moussa Sylla, who was charging towards the goal. Referee Florian Lechner pulled out the red card without hesitation.
The 30-year-old defensive player is not the only professional who will be missing from BTSV in Magdeburg due to a suspension. Robert Ivanov picked up his fifth yellow card against Schalke and will only be able to watch the upcoming game as a spectator.
