DFB star Gwinn celebrates “special” comeback

Giulia Gwinn was back in the DFB Cup for the first time after her injury. Afterwards she was overjoyed.
After months of waiting, Giulia Gwinn was back in the starting line -up for the first time on Monday evening – and could hardly hide her joy. Covered in a woolen blanket, the 26-year-old spoke openly about the importance of her comeback after the final whistle. It was “something very special” for her to “run out of the start”.
The defender had seriously injured her knee last year and lasted last weekend for a few minutes. In the 2-0 (2-0) victory of her team in the first round of the DFB Cup against third division Borussia Dortmund, she was able to get back from the start for the first time since the European Championship in the summer.
There was a special atmosphere: 15,755 spectators filled the Red Earth stadium to the last place. Gwinn emphasized on the Sky microphone that such a backdrop is “very special”-“you will never see that for granted”.
The house -high favorite was particularly difficult in the second half. This is “of course not satisfactory and of course not our claim”, in the coming weeks and especially in the Champions League you have to “go to a shovel in any case, if not two,” said Gwinn, who also paid respect to the opponent.
The BVB women, who have risen four times in series since their foundation and come closer to the big goal of Bundesliga, earned a “very big compliment” from the DFB captain. Even after the double strike from Pernille Harder (27th, 33rd) “they were very compact, had good counterattacks again and again. A lot of respect for BVB.”
