DFB | Rio world champion favorite to succeed Bierhoff

Rio world champion Sami Khedira is the favorite for the post of sports director at the German Football Association (DFB).

This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper. Other candidates for the post alongside Rudi Völler as director of the senior national team are Khedira’s world champion colleague Per Mertesacker and managing director Oliver Ruhnert from Bundesliga club Union Berlin.

Völler recently announced that he would meet with DFB President Bernd Neuendorf “in the coming weeks” with potential candidates for the post of sports director in the DFB.

There are “some candidates”, the former managing director of Bayer Leverkusen did not want to name names.

Völler’s commitment is limited to the home European Championship in 2024. He himself called the personal details of a switchman “even more important” for the future and sees “younger” people on the train here.
