With golden memories of the triumph of 1990 on to the fifth star!

Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Co. are supposed to storm onto the World Cup throne in the USA in a jersey that is strongly reminiscent of the coup 36 years ago. The new, white shirt takes up the legendary black, red and gold diamond pattern that Captain Lothar Matthäus and the heroes of Rome wore on the way to their third title.

No wonder Jürgen Klinsmann likes it “very, very much”. For the then striker and later national coach, the jersey that the DFB presented on Wednesday with partner adidas “brings back a bit of memories of the 1990 World Cup.” At the same time, it exudes self-confidence. Klinsmann wants his heirs to “show the world: ‘Hey, we’re back!'”

Woltemade excited about DFB jersey

The dress, which is also a small reminiscence of the last USA World Cup in 1994, is also well received by the current DFB generation. “I’ve rarely found a jersey cooler,” said Nick Woltemade and added: “I really like this look, it’s so retro. I think it’s world-class and I’m looking forward to playing in it soon.”

The World Cup jersey will celebrate its premiere on November 14th at the DFB team’s qualifying game in Luxembourg. The women’s and U-teams will also be playing in it from now on. The shirt will be in stores from November 6th and costs 100 euros (children 75), the professional version is available for 150 euros.

The material ensures “optimal ventilation even under extreme climatic conditions,” said adidas, referring to the challenging conditions at the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada. The sporting goods manufacturer calls the new shirt a “homage to Germany’s greatest successes and most legendary jerseys at the World Cup.”

The “zigzag look” is “based on the model from 1994, when the USA hosted the tournament for the last time.” At that time, defending champions Germany were eliminated in the quarter-finals against Bulgaria (1:2).
