Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph has also left its mark on the lawn of the Allianz Arena. Is the DFB game now endangered? The stadium boss comments.
The fans of Paris Saint-Germain celebrated the first triumph in the Champions League with a place storm and also damaged the lawn of the Munich Arena. This was also registered in the DFB district in Herzogenaurach-with concern.
“I don’t know what condition the lawn is in,” said goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen the day after. The German national team will compete in the Allianz Arena on Wednesday (from 9:00 p.m. in the LiveTicker at T-Online) in the Nations League semi-final. The final also takes place in Munich four days later. The UEFA assured that it was to ensure good space, it said at the DFB. “They will make the greatest effort,” believed Ter Stegen.
After the 5: 0 against Inter Milan in the final, the PSG supporters from the north curve were drawn to celebrate the historical title of the French master as close as possible with their stars. However, the Paris fans only came to the penalty area, from where they were pushed back by police officers. In addition to the lawn, the gate on this page also wore damage caused by the storm.
Stadium managing director Jürgen Muth was calm. “The damaged area is repaired and re-laid. There is therefore no danger to carry out the game on Wednesday,” Muth told the TV broadcaster Sky.
That has already happened. The damaged lawns around the penalty area in front of the north grandstand and the area towards the corner flag were replaced.
Due to a new technique with the hybrid roller turgeon, with which the lawn was laid in the Allianz Arena last summer 2024, no growth time should be necessary for the freshly inserted elements. Visually, the lawn is already closed again. Whether she will be ready to play without any problems will be shown on Wednesday evening at the latest.
The gate on this side of the field was also affected by the celebrating French fans. The network was cut out and the goal post as well as the door slate on which many fans climbed around. Accordingly, the gate had to be replaced.
The Greenkeeper of FC Bayern, Peter Sauer, had to take care of further damaged areas on the pitch with his team. The appearance of the rock band Linkin Park before the final and the award ceremony on the field also left its mark. At the points where the stages were built, the lawn must now be cared for particularly intensely, probably with the use of special hand grass mowers.
