Women’s European Championship in Switzerland

DFB-Elf Desolat: Debacle in duel for group victory

12.07.2025 – 10:50 p.m.Reading time: 1 min.

Against Sweden, the team of national coach Christian Wück experiences an evening to forget. Within a short time, the DFB-Elf must accept several strokes-from which it no longer recovers.

A bitter defeat at the end of the group phase at the football European Championships of women in Switzerland: Germany lost 1: 4 (1: 3) against Sweden on Saturday evening and thus completed the preliminary round as second behind the Scandinavians.

Jule Brand had given the German team in the lead in an initial phase (7th), Stina Blackstenius (12th), Smilla Holmberg (25th), Fridolina Rolfö (34th/trade) and Lina Hurtig (80.), but turned the game for strongly performing Swedes. The DFB team had to act outnumbered from the 34th minute, since Carlotta Wamser caused the penalty by Rolfö with a handball and flew off the square.

After a strong beginning, however, Germany was repeatedly susceptible to the defensive, and was lucky that Sweden was unable to convert a variety of other opportunities into goals. Now the team of national coach Christian Wück is expected to continue against tournament fashion in the quarterfinals.
