DFB director tested positive: Oliver Bierhoff has Corona

The long-time DFB official will not be available for the time being. The reason is a positive result after a corona test. Bierhoff himself has already spoken out.

DFB national team director Oliver Bierhoff has been infected with the corona virus and has to go into quarantine. This became known on Wednesday afternoon.

The 53-year-old last appeared in public as part of the draw for the World Cup groups in Qatar and attended the draw on April 1 with national coach Hansi Flick.

Due to his illness, Bierhoff has now apologized for a planned media event at the new DFB Academy in Frankfurt am Main. The former national striker himself sent a video message that he was in quarantine and therefore could not be there.

Secretary General Heike Ullrich was also absent from the presentation of the campus, which is to be officially opened in the summer. The program was led, among others, by the director of the academy, Tobias Haupt.

There was already unrest after the German national team’s friendly against the Netherlands in Amsterdam last week, after “Oranje” national coach Louis van Gaal surprisingly declared at the press conference that he had tested positive the day before the game. A connection with Bierhoff’s illness is not known.
