Bundesliga promoters 1. FC Köln and coach Lukas Kwasniok avoided a first round embarrassment in the DFB Cup with two very late goals. Only a double pack deep in added time saved the cathedral city a 2-1 (0: 0) with the third division club SSV Jahn Regensburg and thus the good atmosphere before the comeback season in the first division.
Eric Martel in the sixth and ísak Jóhannesson in the eighth minute of stoppage time became the match winners for the Rhinelander. After a goal by the Jahn professional Benedikt Bauer (66th), it had looked long after a big surprise by the outsider. Regensburg was not able to repeat his coup from the pre -season when the Bundesliga representative VfL Bochum was defeated 1-0 in the first round.
Thanks to Robin Hack: Borussia Mönchengladbach one round
Borussia Mönchengladbach has tortured herself in the second round with a lot of trouble. At the fifth-class Bremen league team Atlas Delmenhorst, the team from Lower Rhine won 3: 2 (2: 2), but showed many weaknesses a week before the league start against Hamburger SV.
In front of 14,300 spectators in the sold-out Marschweg Stadium in Oldenburg, Robin Hack was a match winner for the Gladbacher with two goals. Hack put the five -time German champion twice in the lead (20th/38th), Steffen Rohwedder (32nd) and Linus Urban (40th) each equalized. Gladbach got numerous good chances, but overall the team of Gerardo Seoane missed the necessary consequence in the end and in the duels. In this way, the clear outsider won a deserved draw during the break.
After the change of sides, the Borussia continued to deal with its own chances too carelessly. Rocco Reitz only hit the post (50th), but then Nico Elvedi brought the big favorites back into the lead (68th). The forces now faded at the fifth league team. Nevertheless, the first division team had to tremble to the end because after the 3-2 he did not consistently go to the fourth goal.
Schalke 04 wins in extension at Lok Leipzig
The second division clubs SC Paderborn (3: 1 at Viktoria Köln), 1. FC Kaiserslautern (7: 0 at RSV Eintracht 1949), Karlsruher SC (5: 0 at ZFC Meuselwitz), SpVgg Fürth (2: 0 at BW Lohne) and Schalke 04 (1-0 at locomotive Leipzig) there were no bold opponents. However, S04 had to go to the extension in Leipzig, in which Bryan Lasme (107th) scored the only goal.
