The German Football Association is founding its own company for the women’s Bundesliga and will provide it with 100 million euros for the next eight years.
This be “a strong and courageous signal, which in my view is urgently needed,” said association president Bernd Neuendorf at the DFB Bundestag on Friday (November 7th, 2025) in Frankfurt am Main. The project was also formally launched there.
“Because we want – like the men’s Bundesliga – to be one of the leading women’s leagues in the world. The course for this is now being set.”added Neuendorf. The money is to be distributed from 2026, i.e. from the coming season. The DFB had already emphasized in advance that the women’s Bundesliga urgently needed to be professionalized.
Bundesliga as a joint venture between clubs and the DFB
In addition, the migration of the best players to financially stronger foreign leagues such as England should be prevented. This season the German upper house was increased from 12 to 14 clubs. Not all players can still make a living from their work in the Bundesliga.
The new business model makes sense Joint venture from the clubs and DFB GmbH & Co. KG. Women’s national coach Christian Wück had the growth plan and the investment “justified and absolutely necessary” designated.
DFB hopes for further impetus – when the European Championship comes in 2029
Women’s football will play a major role in the next few years – even beyond the FF27 strategy program adopted in December 2021, said Neuendorf.
The potential, including in girls’ football, is “still huge”. With the application for the EM 2029 “We would like to give this positive development a further boost”. From the 2027/28 season onwards there will also be a three-tier 3rd league for women.
