Devastation after explosion in Osdorp, sixth explosion in Amsterdam this month

At the Pieter Calandlaan near the Ecuplein in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, a robbery was committed around 5 a.m. last night. Local residents and local residents speak opposite AT5 of at least three loud bangs, which could be heard far into Osdorp. The havoc is great.

Then a few small bangs were heard. It is not yet known whether the perpetrators made any loot. Police say no one has been arrested so far. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) is on site, including with a reconnaissance robot.

Around 8.15 am, more than three hours after the first bang, the police asked local residents to leave their homes. The EOD has still not given the signal safe. It is unclear how long the eviction will last.

Increase in explosions

It’s already the sixth explosion in August and the tenth in a month. Several doors, windows and ATMs were blown up. Buildings were severely damaged by the blasts and in some cases Mayor Halsema intervened. It fits within a trend that the police early August already signalednamely that the number of explosions had increased over the past six months.
