The Dessauer-Roßlauer HV 06 secured the relegation in the controversial repetition of the 2nd Handball Bundesliga three weeks after the end of the season.

The team from Saxony-Anhalt won 30:24 (18:14) at Tusem Essen and ended the season in tenth. In the event of a defeat, Dessau would have relegated instead of the ASV Hamm-Westfalen. Essen’s relegation was already clear.

In the last game of the outgoing long -term coach Uwe Jungandreas, Dessau quickly led 8: 3 and determined the game. Among the 1926 fans in Essen were many of the team from Saxony-Anhalt. With a banner with the inscription “Handballmafia DHB”, they breathe air.

It was clearly noticeable to the Essenes that they had not yet played together in the constellation. After the change of sides, Dessau initially expanded his leadership steadily. The hosts could no longer shorten.

Some players already on vacation

The game had preceded a bizarre dispute. The Federal Supreme Court of the German Handball Association had lifted a decision by the Federal Sports Court and ordered the new statement of the game. The reason for this was a violation of the rules in the original encounter that Dessau won at the end of April in Essen with 28:27.

What happened? After a break a few seconds before the end of the game, seven Dessau players stood on the field, although the team was outnumbered due to a time penalty. Neither the referees nor the officials noticed this, which is why Essen appealed against the evaluation of the game.

According to the Dessauer, many players and coaches were already on vacation, partly in Argentina and Indonesia. Some lacked the team in the repeat game. Attempts by the club to prevent the start failed. Essen also had to do without some players from the first game.
