The FC Bayern women lose the first leg in the Champions League quarter-finals against Olympique Lyon. The chances of the semi -finals are disappearing. The only positive aspect: goalkeeper Mala Grohs celebrated a dream comeback after her cancer.

The footballers of FC Bayern Munich are in front of the end in the Champions League. The team of coach Alexander Straus lost the quarter-final first leg against Olympique Lyon 0: 2 (0: 1) and was able to thank her goalkeeper Mala Grohs that the defeat was not even higher. The 23-year-old celebrated a dream comeback and even parried a penalty.

Grohs celebrates starting debut Cancer and parried penalty

The game started with nice news. Maria Luisa Grohs gave her starting eleven comeback in the first team 122 days after the cancer diagnosis. In the past few weeks she had already belonged to the squad, but last weekend in the top game against Wolfsburg, her representative Ena Mamutovic was still between the posts.

At first the 23-year-old got little to do. Her teammates also put the French goal in danger. After a quarter of an hour, Klara Bühl moved into the middle, but her shot stroked past the long post (14th). A quarter of an hour later, after a similar movement sequence, she targeted the left (32nd).

In return, the lead goal for Lyon fell. Tabitha Chawinga used an unfortunate defense campaign by Linda Sembrandt and pulled away. Finally she stayed cool in front of Grohs and scored 1-0 (35th). The guests almost added the second goal before half -time. Sarah Zadrazil fouls Ellie Carpenter in the penalty area. Lindsey Heps missed the due penalty because Grohs dipped into the corner and parried the shot (45.+1).

Bühl forgives – Lyon increased

After half -time, the hosts tried to quickly equalize. Klara Bühl narrowly failed with her attempt after passing from Pernille Harder (49th). After that, the favorite played again and the Munich women were able to thank goalkeeper Grohs that it was initially at 0: 1. The returnee initially parried against Kadidiatou Diani (58th) and also defused a Schlenzer from HEPS (60th).

Five minutes later, the goalkeeper was powerless. After a long ball, Melchie Dumornay extended into the run of HEAPs, which in turn put off on Dumornay. The French woman kept her nerve in front of Grohs and hit the net at the bottom left (65th). The team of coach Alexander Straus was shocked afterwards, ran out again and again without being really fed. It was only in the final phase that Pernille Harder was just blocked by Wendie Renard (81.).

It was the best chance of the connection goal that couldn’t fell. Through the 0: 2, the German champion goes into the second leg in Lyon in a week with a huge mortgage.
