SC Freiburg scored out in the Europa League away. The Breisgauer played a draw at FC Bologna.

With a 1: 1 (1: 0) SC Freiburg against FC Bologna brought an away point in the Europa League. Bologna took the lead in the 29th minute through Riccardo Orsolini. This was preceded by a goalkeeper from Noah Atubolu. Junior Adamu achieved the compensation deserved at the time by penalty in the 57th minute. After that, substitute Derry Scherhann awarded the great chance to win. Due to the tie, SC Freiburg is fifth in the Europa League table after two games.

Freiburg coach Julian Schuster had given a clear rejection before his first European away game. Rather, the 40-year-old had referred to the great fun factor of the international weeks. However, the game in Bologna did not start particularly fun. Both teams went vigorously from the kick -off, but both of them could not develop real train to the goal. So it took up to the 23rd minute before real gate risk was created for the first time. A flat-played corner of Jan-Niklas Best landed on the first post with Patrick Osterhage, who laid out exemplary on the free-standing Johan Manzambi. Its end of around eleven meters blocked Bolognas Santiago Castro on the line. Now, however, Freiburg became significantly stronger and had a slight overweight in the following minutes.

Freiburg awards chance, Bologna meets

The lead goal for the Italian home side burst exactly into this phase. Lienhart clarified a cross from left in front of the feet of Cambiaghi, which simply pulled out from a left -wing position. The actually durable flat shot slipped out of his hands Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu and landed right from the feet of Riccardo Orsolini, who had no trouble from five meters (29th minute). A bitter deficit for the Breisgauer.

However, the team of Julian Schuster was by no means open, but also remained the more active team. However, goal opportunities remained in short supply. The Freiburgers let the ball run well, but they hardly managed to get out of their own half against high -standing hosts. Goals didn’t want to fall before the break whistle. So the first half ended with an unfortunate gap from the SC Freiburg perspective.

Freiburg presses the equalization

Also at the beginning of the second round, the sports club remained the game-determining team and should have compensated in the 54th minute. After a header duel at the penalty point, the ball landed in front of the feet of Lienhart, but the central defender failed from five meters on a world-class parade by Lukasz Skorupski. While the Austrian was still struggling with his missed chance, referee Nenad Minakovic interrupted the game around the scene again in the video evidence. Then the Serb pointed to the point – Castro had previously touched the ball with the hand that was clearly spread too far. With a little luck, Junior Adamu converted the due penalty to 1-1 (57th).

After that, the game became much more rough. Freiburg continued to keep control, but Bologna now appeared increasingly aggressively. The Italians did not come to score chances through the ever more physical game. Instead, SC Freiburg should have taken the lead in the 68th minute. After a ball win from Jordi Makengo, Manzambi played a plug -on pass perfectly into the course of the substitute Derry Scherhann, who, however, failed free -standing on Skorupski. Even the best did not make it past the Bologna goalkeeper (68th).

Freiburg and Bologna are increasingly risking

Freiburg was now the clearly better team, a tour would have been deserved now. The best option for Bologna was created in this phase from a distance. However, Jens Odgaard put his shot from 20 meters past the goal (74th). On the opposite side, the substitute Eren Dinkci awarded it from a slightly pointed angle (75th). Both teams now opened the visor and were increasingly at risk.

In the final minutes, the home side suddenly showed themselves with more pressure. Freiburg stood well, relocated to defend and waited for counterattacks. Another distance from Odgaard parried Atubolu (86th). Bologna wanted the winning goal. However, the last chance of the game belonged to the guests again. Lucas Höler failed in added time because of the strong Skorupski in the Bologna goal (92nd). So the game ended 1-1. SC Freiburg is now in fifth place in the table with four points.

For SC Freiburg, the next match day continues with a home game against FC Utrecht (October 23), but FC Bologna has to go away from FCSB Bucharest.
