Designer Saul Nash wins the Queen Elizabeth II Award

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has awarded designer Saul Nash the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design 2022.

Nash, who recently International Woolmark Prize 2022 is regarded as one of the most sought-after talents in Britain. The latest award recognizes his innovative approach to design, the development of new materials, and the exploration of heritage, performance and technical innovation in the field of sportswear.

The Queen Elizabeth II Award was presented to Nash by the Duchess of Cambridge on behalf of Queen Elizabeth at an event at the Design Museum in London. The talent promotion initiatives of the BFC Foundation were also celebrated and presented.

Nash combines menswear with sportswear

The BFC said in a statement that Nash was selected for the award because he is a cultural innovator whose work encourages discussions about identity, masculinity and status.

“We are delighted to announce Saul Nash as the fifth recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. Nash uniquely combines function, engineering and tailoring in his design, which has ushered in a new perspective on luxury sportswear,” said Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Confederation. “His work explores the relationship between performance and menswear and is often complemented by beautiful and eye-popping choreography. We are incredibly proud to honor Saul and look forward to seeing his brand grow.”

The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design was launched in February 2018 to recognize the role of the fashion industry in society and to spotlight young designers who are talented and make a difference in society through sustainable practices or community engagement effect.

The first award was presented to Richard Queen. Other honorees include Bethany Williams, Rosh Mahtani and Priya Ahluwalia.
