Val Gardena also bows to Marco Odermatt. The Swiss master of recent seasons has dispelled another taboo, designed the waves of the Ciaslat like no one else and dominated the descent on the Saslong which had always eluded him until now. “I skied a perfect Ciaslat, I’m happy and proud – says Odermatt -. I had a few moments of crisis, but I’m there”.

Faster than ever, uncatchable in the most technical section, Odermatt in 2’03″10 left his fastest opponent, teammate Franjo Von Allmen, almost half a second behind (at 45/100). The rest of the field is closed in a handful of cents: from Cochran-Siegle third at 46/100 to Allegre (4th at 47/100) and Cater (5th at 50/100) who with bib 42 was in line with Odermatt up to Ciaslat.

After his success in yesterday’s super-G, Mattia Casse is 12th, in the race for the podium up to three quarters of the track he paid for an error with a delay of 82/100. “I wasn’t that fast – comments Casse -, now tough races will come”.
At 1″15 Dominik Paris finishes, 25th, Christof Innerhofer is 27th. “I tried, but it didn’t work. After last year’s success I returned to my usual level in Val Gardena” he explains to Rai Paris, who won a year ago. Zazzi out of 30 after losing a stick. The other Italians are out of 30.

On a track put to the test by the snowfall of recent days, with the sun illuminating the Ciaslat from Sejersted bib 24 onwards, no one managed to get close to Odermatt, but many athletes scored important advantages up to three quarters of the race, from Roesti (in the end ninth) to Hemetsberger and Eichberger, in the end sixth at 52/100 with 56. With this success Odermatt returns to the top of the general classification with 440 points ahead of Kristoffersen (390) and McGrath (282). Casse is ninth with 138 points.
The men’s World Cup now moves to Alta Badia: tomorrow the giant slalom, Monday the slalom.
