The northern derby in the women’s DFB Cup inspires the audience. The game is sold out – and set new standards.

The DFB Cup semi-final of women between Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen will be held in front of a sold-out house. The HSV sold all 57,000 tickets available for the game on March 23 (3:30 p.m./Sky and ZDF Livestream) in the Volksparkstadion. This makes it the most visited women’s football game in Germany.

Last week, the club had exceeded the previous national record with the tickets sold to date. This had previously been set up at the 2023 cup final between VfL Wolfsburg and SC Freiburg (4: 1) when 44,808 spectators were guests in the stadium.

Internationally, the record is significantly higher: 91,648 fans saw the Champions League duel between FC Barcelona and VfL Wolfsburg in the sold-out Camp Nou in April 2022.

HSV board member Eric Huwer has been pleased with the new German record. “It is more than a sold-out football game. This is Hamburg’s commitment for girls’ and women’s football as well as for our club,” he emphasized. “All of Hamburg stands behind this team – and we are all looking forward to a historic football afternoon in the Volksparkstadion!” Huwer spoke of a “milestone for football” and saw “a clear sign” on the part of the fans that this game belonged to the big football stage.

The HSV is the last remaining second division club in this year’s DFB Cup of women. In the quarter -finals, the club prevailed 2-0 against league competitor Borussia Mönchengladbach. Werder Bremen won 1-0 in Leverkusen.

In the second semi -final, German champions FC Bayern Munich and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim meet. The Kraichgau women surprisingly eliminated the defending champion and series winner VfL Wolfsburg (1-0). The Munich women, on the other hand, had turned off Eintracht Frankfurt 4: 1 after extra time.
