Schuinder easily survives a vote of no confidence from JA21, PvdD, SP, D66, FvD, Lijst Pormes, FvD and Volt. Co-author of the Sterk Lokaal motion drops out before the vote.
The opposition wanted an anonymous vote, because that would give BBB members who do not agree with what is happening the opportunity to also vote in favor.
But the proposal for anonymous voting will not pass. The motion itself was rejected by 10 in favor and 27 against. But such a motion always sticks to a director.
Schuinder seems tipsy in this way, even though he doesn’t see it that way. He will have to make two hundred percent efforts to show improvement. Schuinder can therefore remain seated, but he and the entire provincial council have suffered damage.
The opposition is mainly targeting Deputy Gert-Jan Schuinder, but is also trying with the PvdA through Deputy Yvonne Turenhout and faction leader Hendrikus Loof, because they know that that party is not only having a hard time in the coalition, but is also the most critical.
But Turenhout and Loof continue to embrace the coalition with the BBB in it. Loof does indicate that the BBB’s problems must be over at some point and even uses the word red flag.
“Are you now giving a yellow card?” asks Steenbergen from Sterk Lokaal. Loof: “I wouldn’t call it that, but I am very clear.” Loof wants the PvdA to influence which new BBB deputy will join the GS council.
Being on the ball is more convenient than shouting on the sidelines, that seems to be the strategy. Perhaps the PvdA also sees an opportunity here to gain more control over the BBB and some more influence in the GS council?
In any case, Loof wants to discuss and evaluate extensively “because we have to move forward together.”
That is not enough for the opposition, who wanted an independent investigation, because Schuinder actually wears three hats: deputy, deputy King’s Commissioner and chairman of the Board of Provincial Executive. But that research will not happen either.
