Depeche Mode have announced the release date for their next box set. Playing The Angel – The 12 Inch Singles will be released on November 11th. The set contains ten maxi-singles based on songs from the band’s eleventh studio album, released in 2005.
The package contains vinyl maxis for the four singles “Precious”, “A Pain That I’m Used To”, “Suffer Well” and “John The Revelator”/”Lilian”. A maxi is also dedicated to the title “The Darkest Star”, from which the title of the album comes. The discs contain remixes, instrumentals, dub versions and other recordings.
There is also a limited recompiled LP with B-sides and remixes. Among them are B-sides like “Free”, “Better Days” and “Newborn” and further remixes to “Lilian” or “A Pain That I’m Used To”. The box set also includes a poster and download code for the songs.
Since 2018, Depeche Mode have been releasing 12″ box sets for their previous albums. Most recently, the box set for “Exciter”, the band’s tenth album, with eight maxi singles was released in June. After the sudden death of founding member Andrew Fletcher in May 2022, it was initially unclear whether there would also be new music from the band. In August, however, remaining band members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore indicated that they were working on new songs in the studio.
