Departing CDA member argues for a new council chamber in Emmen. From the three-storey back to the heart of the centre. ‘Seeing politicians debate in the spotlights on late night shopping’

For thirty years Auke Oldenbeuving (63) sat in the benches at the side of the current council chamber or in a political seat. First as a top official of Emmen and the last 12 years as a councilor on behalf of the CDA. It bothers him that it is still the same room, despite interim refurbishments, and especially that the same benches are still there. He did not hide his criticism when he left on Thursday evening.
