Open to university students of the MSU Denver or other universities and non -graduate participants, One World One Water Center (Owow) offers a study program in Italy at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The course explores the history of water in Italy, from aqueducts to the present day. A particular focus is on the Italian agricultural and wine heritage, on the construction and celebration of the links between Italy and Colorado.

“Our relationship with Italy is twofold. The first is that we have a study program abroad with MSU, the Metropolitan State University of Denver, where we take students who deal with journalism on the water and also of programs Water conservation education and we make them interact with the University of Rome Tor Vergatawith local government staff, with other students, with educators, and then we also share what we are doing in the USA, in particular in Colorado, for the conservation of water. Furthermore, through our sustainable agriculture program, we work with the United Nations and with the government structures of agriculture in Italy to learn what we are doing mutually for the conservation of water and for more sustainable agriculture, and then sharing the possibility of collaborations for the management of water resources “, explains Erin Bird which is Interim Director of Marketing and Social Responsibility of the Denver Botanic Gardens.

The collaboration between the Owow Center (Denver Botanic Gardens and MSU Denver) and the Department of Agriculture of Colorado is concentrated on urban agriculture efficient from a water point of view through soil management. Although focused on the Colorado, this collaboration has a global impact through Owow’s partnerships in Italy, which has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Emiliano Romagna channel (CER) in 2022.
