Dennis Schröder received a special award from the European Basketball Championship in Riga. The German captain from Braunschweig was elected as the most valuable player in the tournament, as the World Association Fiba announced after the 88:83 final victory against Turkey.
For the 31-year-old playmaker from the Sacramento Kings, it is already the second MVP award at a big tournament. As early as the 2023 World Cup, he was elected as the most valuable player.
Schröder also leads the all-star team of the European Championship. In addition to the German captain, his team-mate Franz Wagner, the Turkish silver medalist Alperen Sengün, Greece’s NBA star Giannis Antetocounmpo and the Slovenian Luka Dončić made it into the best five of the tournament.
The German national basketball team had prevailed against Turkey in the final and thus won the European championship title. Schröder was one of the formative figures of the German team throughout the tournament.
