Dennis Geiger extends at TSG Hoffenheim – cancellation at Eintracht Frankfurt

contract expired

After negotiations, Dennis Geiger decided against moving to Eintracht Frankfurt and opting for an extension at his youth club 1899 Hoffenheim. TSG confirmed on Thursday that the 24-year-old midfielder had decided against the Hessians’ offer and opted for a long-term expansion of his cooperation with the Kraichgauers until 2027.

Only four players have been in the TSG squad for longer – all of them are at least four years older – than Geiger. After years struggling with injuries, the former U21 international has been fit for the most part this season and has been seeded under both André Breitenreiter and Pellegrino Matarazzo. In addition, with the most recent series with ten points from four games, Hoffenheim has freed itself from the worst relegation battle for the time being and is five points ahead of the relegation rank.

“Dennis is a prime example of the Hoffenheim way. As a child of the region who grew up in our academy, he stands for identification, passion and loyalty. His contract extension is a sign of trust for both sides that is certainly not commonplace in this business,” says Alexander Rosen, director of professional football at TSG. “It is very fortunate to see him on the pitch consistently this season after some health setbacks in the past. With his willpower and tackling strength as well as his great footballing qualities, he has recently developed more and more into a leading figure in our team. We are very pleased that Dennis has committed himself to his TSG, even in a challenging time.”

TSG Hoffenheim’s Dennis Geiger canceled Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021

Geiger was already associated with Eintracht in 2021, and a short time later he extended it to 2023. In December, when asked about his future, he told the “kicker”: “We are in talks. I feel extremely comfortable in Hoffenheim, I don’t need to repeat that every two weeks. (…) I’m not stressed, and I don’t think our manager Alexander Rosen is either. We had good conversations.”

Now Geiger said about his extension: “I’ve been thinking about my future for a long time. TSG is my sporting home and I want to keep playing football here. I am firmly convinced that we can still achieve a lot on our common path, and I will do everything to do my part.”

In Frankfurt, meanwhile, there is a change in midfield. Captain Sebastian Rode (32) would like to retire after his contract ends in 2024 according to the current status, then Djibril Sow (26)’s working paper will also expire. The Swiss national player is already considered a change candidate in the summer. Daichi Kamada (26) leaves Eintracht free of charge at the end of June. Talks with midfielder Houssem Aouar (24) had recently failed, but the rejection came from the Bundesliga club. According to reports, there is an agreement with Farès Chaïbi (20) from Toulouse FC.
