Dow Jones- Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said that his country greets the statements of US President Donald Trump, according to which the Greenland people have the right to self-determination. However, he does not believe that the area of the area of loosening relationships with Denmark means that it wants to become part of the United States.
Rasmussen said: “You want to loosen your ties to Denmark, we are working on having a more equal relationship, but I can’t imagine that you want to do that to become an integrated part of America.”
In his speech before the congress, Trump had said that he believed that the United States would get Greenland and immediately turned to the residents: “We emphasize their right to determine their own future, and if they decide to do so, we welcome them to the United States of America.”
In Greenland the election to parliament will take place on March 11, which has 31 seats. The most important topic of choice is the question of Greenland’s independence from Denmark. The Greenland government said in February 2024 that independence was its goal.
