Den Helder starts play-offs for national title with a victory over Grashoppers

The women of Den Helder have started the best of five series in the battle for the national title. The entire game, the basketball players had a lead against Grashoppers. As a result, it ended in 96-83 ahead of the current champion.

Den Helder started excellent, because after three seconds it already got two free throws. The first was missed by Kourtney Treffers, but the second was a hit. It turned out to be the start of a simple match. The large margin for the home team went from 13-4 to 20-6. The first quarter ended in 26-13, leaving Grashoppers a long way off. Mario Bennes’s team started the second quarter well, because within two minutes the score was 34-15.

Suns never ran into problems and kept the big lead to 48-35, which was also the halftime score. In the third quarter, a margin of twenty points was achieved at 57-37. The final score in the quarter was reached 69-58. In the final minutes, the margin was narrowed to eight: 88-80. After this, Den Helder started again and it eventually became 96-83.

Den Helder and Grashoppers already played the cup final against each other last month. The Katwijkers then moved on to the longest end: 59-62. The next confrontation is Thursday 5 May in Katwijk.
