A collection of formerly Black-Sabbath-Demos that the band took under the name Earth, will finally be officially published next month.
Jim Simpson: “Show recordings how good they were right from the start”
“Earth: The Legendary Lost Tapes” will be released on July 25th at Big Bear Records. The collection contains some recordings that Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward in 1969 in the Zella Studios in Birmingham, England. Later in the same year Earth changed his name in Black Sabbath, and the band published their self -titled debut album in February 1970.
“The Legendary Lost Tapes” was looked after by Big Bear founder Jim Simpson, who was also the first manager of Black Sabbath. Simpson said (according to Louder) that the collection of “rare early recordings” presented, which were “removed by long -lost ribbons”.
He added: “These recordings clearly show what great music they produced right from the start. We started these tracks in the Zella Studios in Birmingham in 1969. But apart from a publication. Because their style developed so quickly. Now, around 57 years later, the recordings are greater importance. The great band were more than deserving all the success that had been in front of them. ”
So far only available as bootlegs
While these demos were never officially published, some bootleg collections with pictures from Earth era have appeared over the years. It is unclear whether Black Sabbath is involved in “The Legendary Lost Tapes” in any way. A representative of the band did not immediately respond to a request from Rolling Stone for comment.
The announcement of the publication comes at a time when Black Sabbath wants to reunite one last time. At the last last concert by Osbourne. Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward have not been on stage together since 2005. Although it was refused to take part in some of the band’s newer shows (such as on their “The End” tour 2016). The concert is scheduled to take place on July 5 in Birmingham. With other acts such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains and T.
