Demi Schuurs easily to last eight US Open doubles, Koolhof also reaches quarterfinals | US Open

Demi Schuurs has qualified for the quarterfinals of women’s doubles for the third time in her career at the US Open. The best doubles player in the Netherlands, together with her American partner Desirae Krawczyk, defeated Marta Kostjoek from Ukraine and the Chinese Zhang Shuai in the third round. It was 6-4 6-4 for Schuurs and Krawczyk.

For 29-year-old Schuurs, seeded sixth in New York, it is the first time since the beginning of last year that she has made it past the third round at a grand slam tournament. Then she made it to the semifinals at the Australian Open, the tournament she missed this year. She has only won two Grand Slam matches this year.

Schuurs, who has never been in the final battle at a grand slam, is the number 16 in the world.

Koolhof

Wesley Koolhof and his British partner Neal Skupski have made it to the last eight of the men’s doubles at the US Open. Koolhof and Skupski were in New York 7-6 (5) 3-6 6-3 too strong for the Australians Matt Ebden and Max Purcell, who surprisingly won Wimbledon this summer.

Koolhof (33) and Skupski (32), who are placed second, will face Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and João Sousa from Portugal in the quarterfinals.

Two years ago Koolhof reached the final at the US Open, together with the Croatian Nikola Mektic. With Skupski, he has not yet made it past the quarterfinals at grand slam level.
