Travelers at Eindhoven Airport already suffer from delays all day on Wednesday. A shortage of air traffic controllers in the Tower of Defense at Schiphol is the cause. Eindhoven Airport assumes that travelers still suffer from it all day.
Eindhoven Airport has been struggling with delays since Wednesday morning. A large number of flights depart half an hour to one and a half hours later than originally planned. There have been no flights yet due to the understaffing.
Considerable delays, no failure yet
The problems are due to a shortage of air traffic controllers. Not on the tower of Eindhoven Air Base, but on that of Schiphol. From there the higher aircraft are supervised above our country. If the planes start landing or taking off, they are picked up by the local traffic tower.
For the time being, only the flight to Alicante from ten past four Wednesday afternoon has been canceled, but according to a spokesperson that has nothing to do with the problems on the air traffic tower. “It’s a technical defect.”
Problems take all day
It is not excluded that flights will be canceled at a later time. “Airlines are now busy picking up and planning how they can best use the aircraft. Aircraft have several destinations in a day. And those planes must have landed somewhere for a certain time,” said a spokesperson.
At Eindhoven Airport they take into account that the problems still last all day. “We advise travelers the Website of Eindhoven Airport to keep an eye on. There you can see one-on-one what the current departure times are, “said the spokesperson.
More often problems with air traffic control
It is not the first time that Eindhoven Airport has suffered from a staff shortage on the control tower. A few years ago, travelers also had to take into account considerable delays and failed flights due to understaffing in the summer.
The spokesperson cannot yet say whether the problems are completely resolved on Thursday.
